About Cleaning a Silk Batik Wall Hanging

Cleaning a Silk Batik Wall Hanging?
We have a Silk Batik we bought in Jamaica about 20 years ago that we had stored in a closet and now it is a bit discolored (backround). How can we freshen it up and clean it. It is stretched right now but not framed. (Drycleaning? Hand washing? still stretched? removed?) Muriel Chandler's work by the way.

Because it is silk and has sentimental value, I would take it to a reputable dry cleaner. Silk is very difficult to wash because water leaves mineral deposits which will attract dirt and dust becoming stains. You probably will have to remove it and have it stretched again, however, but a reputable frame shop should be able to help you and you may want to consider having it framed. By framing it you will protect it from future sun damage especially if you request that they use archival materials.
